Election time
Posted on Brendan's behalf, because he's forgotten to do it himself - T.
It's that time again! Tears, fears, and jittery speeches!
Here are the details for the KRAP Elections 2009.
Nominations are open as of today. What this means is that any fully paid up member of KRAP can run for any position in the committee. To run for a position in the committee, you must email nominations@kraprock.co.uk with your full name, the position you are running for, and a request for confirmation. The following will do:
"Hi, Joe Bloggs here, just confirming that I would like to run for the position of Social Secretary"
The deadline for nominations is 10th February at 5pm.
KRAP Elections will be held on the 17th February at Horwood Bar.
All candidates should be there BEFORE 9pm. Each candidate will be expected to hold a 3-5 minute speech on why they feel they would be good for the role. Candidates for the roles of President, Vice President and Social Secretary will each be required to answer 3 questions from the society.
CONSTITUTIONAL DEFINITON OF EACH ROLE
Below is an exert from the KRAP Constitution detailing the various positions, with expanded summaries in bold.
4.2 All committee members are expected to attend all committee meetings and preferably as many KRAP events as possible.
There are eight committee positions:
President
- The Presidents' duty is the organisation and delegation of work towards all KRAP related activities and events.
- The President is legally responsible for all KRAP events.
Primarily, the President is required to act as a general manager to the committee, and should have good leadership and delegation skills.
Vice President
- The Vice Presidents' role is to support the President as much as possible.
The Vice president is a fairly open role, and is what you make of it. However, it requires the candidate to work alongside the president in a supportive and informed role. You will be expected to be authoritative and responsible in your actions in the committee as you will be a senior committee member.
Treasurer
- The Treasurer is in charge of all financial related aspects of the society. - The Treasurer is also legally responsible for KRAP.
The Treasurer is required to have basic numeracy skills, and to at times predict the society's budget. Responsibility is key as a legally responsible committee member. The role involves doing a small but regular amount of paper work.
Secretary
- All Committee meetings should be attended and minutes taken and recorded. - The Secretary is also legally responsible for KRAP.
The Secretary must be able to write minutes fast and effectively for the KRAP committee meetings. This involves paying close attention to what is being said and making sure to include the various 'action points' decided throughout the meetings.
Social Secretary
- The Social Secretary is in charge of the organisation of socials, and the allocation of DJ slots at both socials and club-nights.
The Social Sec is required to maintain an awareness of the DJ's who have played and not played, to make fair and unbiased decisions regarding DJ slots, Theme/Clubnight allocations and suggestions and must be at every social and clubnight. This role demands dedication, and while it can be extremely fun, requires someone who can cope with dedicating 2 nights a week at KRAP.
Public Relations Officer
- The PR Officer is responsible for advertising and public relations.
The PR officer needs to have artistic and creative skill. These days this includes the ability to use programs such as Photoshop or Illustrator. The PR officer is in charge of arranging the posters, providing the online advertisement, and being the public face of KRAP alongside the President.
Non-Portfolio Officer
- This role is to support the committee.
While this isn't a specific role, there are plenty of issues that a non portfolio officer can handle, and the role is very much what you make it. If nothing else, this role ensures an extra pair of eyes and ears on the committee. In recent times, the non-portfolio officer has acted as host to KRAP's regular radio show on KUBE.
Webmaster
- The Webmaster is responsible for all KRAP internet based technology.
Technical knowledge is somewhat of a must nowadays - at the very least, the webmaster must be able to manage and maintain the forums and website, and modify both as necessary.
See you all soon on the 27th, the night of the first social at Horwood Bar!
